Defining the Future of the Internet in America
Hundreds joined the InternetforEveryone.org initiative on Saturday, Dec. 6, for the first of four town hall meetings to kick-start the movement for better Internet in the United States.
The event featured an inspiring list of local speakers, including Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), Rev. Douglas Nelson, student Lily Huerta, Dr. Neal Kaufman, short documentary-style films and small group conversations between participants who spoke out about their experiences on- and offline and about how they envision the future of the Internet.
What Did We Talk About?
We discussed the kind of Internet we want and how we all can share in its benefits. Some of the questions we asked were:
- How do we ensure Internet services for everyone in America?
- How do we expand consumer choice and lower costs for Internet services?
- How can the Internet be a catalyst for economic growth, jobs and prosperity?
- How do we preserve the Internet’s level playing field so everyone can access the content, applications and services of their choice?
- What roles should be played by the federal government, local governments, private industry and everyday citizens to build a better Internet?
